Chapter 3: We only sell this stuff, we don't touch it.
Chapter 3: We only sell this stuff, we don't touch it.
Wang An finally believed Xie Sheng's words when he realized that simply throwing in a pile of garbage could yield precious divine relics and medical supplies.
He can get everything from the black box as long as he offers enough chips.
The Pandora's box, which sealed the unknown, has finally been opened.
But Wang An no longer cared about any of that. As long as he could survive in this apocalyptic ditch, as long as he could save his sister, as long as he could gain power, as long as he could gain everything... he would give up everything.
Before night fell, Wang An hurriedly carried the two boxes home, scraping the ground along the way to collect trash into the black boxes.
Seeing his behavior, Jie Sheng couldn't help but say, "The value is too low. I need something more valuable."
Although the chaotic essence obtained from recycling soil will not diminish, the problem is that Jie Sheng is not lacking the essence itself, but rather the methods to use this essence to interfere with the world.
While recycling trash and opening boxes for lucky draws, Jie Sheng didn't forget to carefully observe every fluctuation of the Chaos Origin, and sure enough, he discovered some clues.
He discovered that the transformation of the Chaos Origin was a process. After Wang An came into contact with the black box, it seemed that something invisible and intangible seeped into the box from his body, interacted with the two Chaos Origins, and then transformed into two different divine powers.
These two different divine powers changed again when Wang An reached out to take them, transforming into a dagger and a medical kit.
What appeared were exactly what Wang An craved.
"Was it Wang An's good luck, or was it because of that intangible thing?" Jie Sheng pondered, the effect of opening the box might not be entirely random.
Conversely, the same principle applies: after being put into the black box, that garbage will be transformed into a certain type of divine power before it can continue to decompose into the origin of chaos.
The passage of time had forced Jie Sheng to become more rational in his thinking. In the process of continuous observation, he remembered the patterns of change in anything that had been transformed by the black box.
He can now use the origin of chaos to reverse and transform things into daggers and medical supplies (he can now specify a guaranteed reward in the lottery).
In other words, he was not using these powers blindly, but was genuinely studying and researching their principles.
"Unfortunately, destruction is much easier than creation. I can easily imitate things created by black boxes, but I can't easily copy things that have been recycled. I can only rely on a large number of samples to analyze them slowly."
"When I've accumulated enough knowledge in the future, perhaps I'll be able to understand my own state and break free from the shackles of the black box!"
That's why he said he doesn't need garbage; he needs more samples for his research!
Jie Sheng had made his decision, but the corresponding price posed a dilemma for Wang An. How could a down-on-his-luck scavenger possibly acquire those valuable and precious items?
But no matter how difficult the task, it must be done; he is now like a black box.
As night fell, under the watchful eyes of the mutated animals, Wang An finally returned home safely.
It's called a home, but it's really just a tent made of patterned tarpaulin, several kilometers away from the nearest town, Blackstone.
This is the norm for survivors in the wilderness. They have no specific dwellings and can only rely on the surrounding areas of some settlements, exchanging the garbage they collect for living resources. As more and more people gather, they form shacks.
"Wait, someone's been here before?"
Because his parents had recently died, Wang An had moved his tent away from the shed area to this remote place in order to protect his younger sister. There were no ruins around to scavenge.
Logically speaking, few people should come here, but there are many drag marks on the ground, which are obviously traces left by living people.
The drag marks, after meandering around, eventually led towards their tent.
"Oh no! Xiaoyu!"
Wang An was anxious and ran home as fast as he could, wishing he could grow eight more legs. To speed things up, he even threw away the medical kit, but after a moment's hesitation, he left the black box and the dagger behind.
It's near, it's near!
In a blur, he saw two burly figures surrounding the tent where his sister was.
Wang An's eyes instantly turned bloodshot, and he immediately brandished his scarlet dagger, charging towards his opponent.
……
"Brother Chen, I'm sure that kid's hideout is around here. Several people saw them come to town yesterday, then pack their things and head this way. They're probably in this area."
Three burly men rode a bumpy modified vehicle across the wilderness, seemingly searching for something. Their physiques in the wilderness were enough to demonstrate their strength, not to mention that they held "truth" in their hands!
Although they were just crudely made homemade guns, they were absolute powerhouses to scavengers who only had cold weapons with them!
The man in the lead, known as Brother Chen, nodded slowly and exhaled the last smoke ring: "We've offended the Chosen One. Although such a big shot wouldn't care about small fry, we should at least show some respect. We just happened to be passing by today, so let's take care of them. This family are veteran scavengers; they must have accumulated quite a fortune. It'll be a good deal for us brothers."
"Hehe, who told them to be so unlucky? They found something good, but the Chosen One saw it and they didn't know to give it up, causing so many people to be implicated."
A few days earlier, Wang An's parents went out to scavenge and, by sheer luck, found a divine relic. They originally intended to find a way to exchange it for resources, but unexpectedly, a superhuman happened to come to the town that day and sensed the aura of the divine relic.
This was enough to sustain them for several years, so Wang An's parents were naturally unwilling to give it up for nothing. The result was obvious: they both became victims of that superhuman.
The incident happened so suddenly that even Wang An was unaware of the details. His parents had both passed away, and many ordinary people were injured by the aftermath of the extraordinary events, including Wang An's sister, Wang Yu.
People dared not resent the extraordinary ones, after all, they were the legendary chosen ones! So they vented their resentment on Wang An and his sister.
Left with no other choice, they had to leave the safe zone and flee to this desolate wilderness.
Yesterday, Wang An had no choice but to return to the Survivors' Town to get treatment for his sister, but he didn't expect to be targeted by someone with ulterior motives.
Following the faint traces on the ground, Chen and his two companions easily spotted Wang An's tent. He was currently overwhelmed with work and had no time to deliberately conceal his whereabouts.
"Brother Chen! He's here after all!"
Beside a few lonely trees, a dilapidated tent was set up.
Two henchmen stepped forward, lifted the tent flap, and looked around: "Hey, there's a lot of supplies here, and there's a woman in here too. She must be that kid's sister."
The tent was piled with a lot of things, all of which were the inheritance left by Wang An's parents, enough supplies to barely sustain them for a few months.
Wang Yu, however, fell into a coma due to an infection caused by her injury.
Seeing this, one of the henchmen chuckled twice, about to extend his evil claws.
But the next second, Brother Chen grabbed the younger brother's hand: "Get your thoughts in check, aren't you afraid of getting some kind of abnormal disease?!"
Abnormal diseases are common in the wilderness, mostly caused by the invasion of abnormal divine power that is ubiquitous in the apocalypse.
Those who are lucky might be able to control the divine power within their bodies and soar to become extraordinary beings. However, most people are affected by the abnormal divine power, their bodies disintegrate into a pile of rotten flesh, and in more severe cases, they even mutate into monsters!
With Brother Chen blocking his way, the younger brother's big head immediately took control of his small head. Unless a true superhuman could sense it with their own hands, no one would know whether Wang Yu in front of them had contracted an abnormal disease.
They were living a fairly comfortable life. If they had a relationship with him and unfortunately got infected, they would truly regret it.
Brother Chen waved his hand: "Load all the supplies here onto the truck. Take this woman back and sell her to those who aren't afraid to die. Remember, we only sell this stuff, we don't touch it!"
