Chapter 869: Cultivating Perseverance
Chapter 869: Cultivating Perseverance
After finishing his call with Yu Xiang, before he could even catch his breath, Liu Jin rushed into the room with the little girl and Mi Guo.
"Uncle, what are we having for dinner tonight?"
Huang Xiaochuan glanced at the time; it was only a little past four in the afternoon.
"Which belly of yours is made of rubber? I remember you ate the most at noon, you ate three chicken legs by yourself, plus two bowls of rice, and now you're hungry?" Looking at his increasingly round niece, Huang Xiaochuan frowned into a deep frown.
Liu Jin (Huo Xinyuan) is already thirteen years old (by Chinese reckoning). After the summer vacation, she will be starting junior high school and will be a young lady. However, her personality is exactly the same as her mother Zeng Xia's. The key is that her appetite is also the same; she can eat a lot.
It wasn't that the wealthy family was unwilling to feed her; Huang Xiaochuan's concern was that if they didn't control her weight now, it would be even harder to control it later. Her mother, Zeng Xia, was a perfect example. She had managed to lose a lot of weight a few years ago, but it quickly rebounded. Moreover, she was very tight-lipped and refused to say how much she weighed, but Huang Xiaochuan estimated that her second sister, Zeng Xia, was definitely over 140 pounds now.
Thinking of this, Huang Xiaochuan shook his head helplessly, his eyes filled with worry as he looked at Liu Jin. The chubby girl when she was little and the chubby girl when she grew up are not the same thing. The former is lovable, while the latter is annoying.
When his uncle brought up his appetite, Liu Jin became unhappy: "Uncle..."
At this moment, the little girl Huang Ruiying spoke up for her sister: "Dad, we just want to know if you're taking us to Lou Wai Lou tonight?"
"Lou Wai Lou? You want to go?" Huang Xiaochuan looked at the three children in front of him with great interest. This idea must have come from Liu Jin or his own little girl. Mi Guo was just joining in the fun.
The three girls nodded in unison. It seems that Lou Wai Lou is quite famous, even a few children want to go and see it.
"Alright! Then we'll go to Lou Wai Lou tonight, but I have a condition." Huang Xiaochuan looked at the three girls, especially the chubby little girl, Liu Jin.
As expected, Liu Jin was the first to ask, "What are the conditions?"
"We won't take a car, we'll walk there, eat, and then walk back," Huang Xiaochuan stated his terms.
"Okay!" Liu Jin immediately agreed. In her opinion, Lou Wai Lou was right by West Lake, and it wouldn't be more than a few steps away.
Huang Xiaochuan laughed and held up his little finger: "Come on, words are no proof, let's pinky swear."
"Pinky promise, a hundred years from now!" That's settled, the contract is made.
As the sun set and the sunlight faded, Huang Xiaochuan led his six children, big and small, on foot to the Lou Wai Lou flagship store on Gushan Road. Gao Song had already booked a private room, which supposedly offered a view of the West Lake at night.
The route we took was to go north along the West Lake, passing several scenic spots such as Broken Bridge in Snow, Bai Causeway, and Autumn Moon over the Calm Lake, and finally arriving at Gushan Island in the West Lake, where the Lou Wai Lou flagship store is located.
But this road is not short at all, it's several kilometers long, and the way back is even longer, taking a different route. Huang Xiaochuan plans to take the six children back to the hotel along the Su Causeway, passing Leifeng Pagoda.
Sure enough, after walking about a third of the way, when they reached the Six Parks Wharf, Liu Jin wanted to back out.
"I can't take it anymore! I can't walk anymore!"
"If you're not leaving, then you can stay here. We're leaving." Huang Xiaochuan had long seen through the little girl's tricks and wasn't going to put up with her at all.
Liu Jin regretted it. As she walked, she sensed something was wrong. She found a West Lake route sign and realized that Lou Wai Lou was actually on the north bank of the lake. (For more information, please click here: Chapter 869: Cultivating Perseverance). Their hotel was on the south bank, separated only by West Lake. To get to Lou Wai Lou, they would have to walk around half of the lake – this was truly a nightmare.
And she just found out that she could take a boat directly to Lou Wai Lou; she could take a boat from the pier opposite the hotel. She was filled with regret.
After her uncle led her older brother, older sister, younger brother, and younger sister far away, she realized that her uncle wasn't just bluffing, so she could only grit her teeth and chase after them again.
As they walked, Huang Xiaochuan observed the children. His eldest niece, Tang Ruixuan, was steady and took care of her younger siblings along the way.
The two boys, Huang Zemian and Huang Zedie (Maowa), were in good physical condition and walked steadily the whole way without any complaints. The two brothers chatted and laughed along the way, enjoying themselves very much.
My little girl was the most lively one on the whole trip, with incredible energy. She hardly showed any signs of fatigue, and she was the one who talked the most.
Migo was also very good. Although she looked a little tired, she persevered and never complained. Huang Xiaochuan arranged for a few children to stop and rest a few times along the way, and take the opportunity to look at the nearby scenery.
"Have some water!" Huang Xiaochuan handed the water that Li Huan had given him to several children.
Their little faces were flushed, and they were covered in sweat. They had certainly had a lot of exercise today, but this was just the beginning. If you can't keep up with your stamina when you're out playing, you won't be able to do it.
"Uncle, how much further?" Liu Jin asked in a very mournful tone. His bangs were stuck to his forehead with sweat, and he looked extremely disheveled. Huang Xiaochuan felt both sorry for him and amused.
"Almost there, almost there, just five more minutes at most, we can already see the rooftops," Huang Xiaochuan coaxed, pointing to a cluster of buildings to the west.
"You're lying! You've been saying it for five minutes already!" This time, the little girl absolutely refused to believe her.
"I'm not lying to you this time, it really only takes five minutes." They were already at the Broken Bridge, and they were indeed almost there, so Huang Xiaochuan's tone was more confident this time.
"Drink some water, hang in there a little longer." Tang Ruixuan, the oldest of the children, helped Liujin unscrew the bottle cap, gave her water, and encouraged her.
Huang Zemin and Maowa originally wanted to take turns carrying Liujin for a while, but Liujin's small size ultimately deterred them from their plan.
Upon arriving at the restaurant, a miraculous scene unfolded. Liu Jin, who had seemed exhausted, suddenly regained her energy. The reason was quite simple: she was tempted by the dazzling array of dishes on the menu. After walking for so long, she was truly starving.
"This, this, I want to eat this Dongpo pork, and this duck, and I also want to eat this chicken, and..." Liu Jin started swiping through the menu.
Huang Xiaochuan was amused, and then said to the other children, "You guys can order whatever you want to eat."
The children nodded in agreement, and Miguo asked timidly, "Uncle, can I have some eight-treasure rice?"
Huang Xiaochuan was about to nod when his daughter interrupted him, "No problem, order two portions, it has to be two portions. I just checked, one portion is too small, not enough for all of us."
"Hey, hey, hey, don't forget what your mom said: eat less sweets. Just order one serving of eight-treasure rice. Aren't you going to eat the other dishes?" Huang Xiaochuan quickly interjected to stop him.
"Hmph!" Huang Ruiying had no choice but to give up when her father brought up her mother, Yu Xiang, but she still looked unconvinced.
Huang Xiaochuan ignored her and said to Miguo with a smile, "Miguo, order one serving of Eight Treasure Rice. See if there are any other dishes you like, and order a couple more."
"Mm!" Migo nodded.
