Chapter 445 - 409: Trouble Stirs Again (Part 2)
Just as the tension between Aurora Sinclair and Caleb Winslow reached a breaking point, threatening to erupt into a fight, a resonant voice suddenly cut in. "Dawn Miles, our Radiant Void Sect has always revered its teachers and valued its principles. We persuade with reason. You can’t make wild accusations without concrete evidence..."
Caleb Winslow and Merck Gold froze, their gazes involuntarily drawn to the end of the corridor.
There, dressed in a cyan robe, Kael Miles approached at a leisurely pace.
’Hadn’t he returned to the Holy Mountain for his martial cultivation?’
’Why is he back so soon?’
Aurora Sinclair’s eyes lit up. She immediately raised her hands and performed a deep, respectful bow toward Kael Miles, calling out in a clear voice, "Dawn Miles pays her respects to the Martial Grandmaster."
"Hahaha... Rise, quickly. Let your Grandmaster see if you’ve lost any weight."
With a smile, Kael Miles strode forward and made a gesture of helping Aurora up.
The warm interaction between the two caused varied expressions to appear on the faces of the onlookers.
This man was one of the heads of the Alliance, but he rarely visited. He spent his years in seclusion, practicing his martial cultivation deep in the mountains and ancient forests, so very few people at the Alliance even knew who he was.
’Who would have thought he was this girl’s Martial Grandmaster?’
’Her future standing in the Alliance is bound to be high. We need to reconsider where our loyalties lie.’
Across from them, Caleb Winslow suddenly flicked his sleeve and let out a cold snort, seemingly to remind Kael Miles of something.
Kael Miles glanced at him, then tapped Aurora on the head and said in a chastising tone, "Lord Winslow may have a short temper, but that’s no reason for you to be so rude. Go on, apologize..."
Caleb Winslow’s expression stiffened. ’Sly old fox,’ he cursed inwardly. Kael was ostensibly giving him an out, but he was actually mocking him for squabbling with a junior.
Aurora raised her hands and performed an Ancient Martial Ceremony toward Caleb Winslow. "Lord Winslow, I was disrespectful earlier. Please forgive my offense."
With everyone watching, Caleb Winslow had no choice but to take the offered out. His face was grim as he replied stiffly, "Since you are Lord Miles’s grand-disciple, that makes us family. But the matter of Hector Lennox’s actions still requires an explanation to Karthos on the Western Continent."
Aurora was about to speak when Kael Miles let out a few soft coughs. "This matter certainly requires an explanation, but Hector Lennox left the Radiant Void Sect more than twenty years ago..."
"But your disciple was once a Guardian of Veridia. Now, the accusations Karthos of the Western Continent has made against Veridia have solid proof..."
At this, Caleb Winslow seemed to have found his justification. He pointed at the device on Alvin Morgan’s arm and said smugly, "His video is irrefutable proof that Hector Lennox murdered a member of the Karthos royalty."
Kael Miles’s expression shifted. He had thought Dawn Miles was the one in trouble, but he hadn’t expected Hector Lennox to be involved—much less for his own grand-disciple to have obtained the proof. He was suddenly caught in an impossible situation.
Just then, Alvin Morgan suddenly spoke up. "Lord Winslow, you seem to be overlooking something. In the video, the men from Karthos were the first to try and kill me, and they made the first move. If any compensation is to be paid, shouldn’t it be Karthos compensating our nation? After all, I am a member of the Morgan family..."
He enunciated the final words, "a member of the Morgan family," with exceptional clarity. Kael Miles instantly breathed a sigh of relief. Seeing Caleb Winslow’s expression darken, he adopted a somber tone and asked, "Is it true? The people from Karthos attacked you first?"
Alvin Morgan simply played the video again, replaying the section with the Western Continent man’s words several times for emphasis.
Kael Miles erupted in a show of fury. "The Morgan Family is vital to Veridia! An act like this shows a complete disregard for the stability of both our nations. If you ask me, the Karthos Royal Family should be the one to pay compensation. What do you say?"
His gaze landed on Caleb Winslow and Merck Gold.
Although Merck Gold and Kael Miles had their own friction from an incident a hundred years ago, they were largely in agreement when it came to their stance on the Winslow Clan.
He was the first to respond. "Since the people from Karthos initiated the attack, they should, by right, compensate Veridia."
Upon hearing this, Caleb Winslow’s face turned as black as thunder. But with both of them having declared their stance, he had no choice but to concede that Karthos was in the wrong. Still, not wanting to let Kael Miles and Aurora Sinclair have an easy victory, he added one final statement:
"Since we’ve identified the killer as Hector Lennox, we should report it to the International Martial Arts Bureau and issue a global manhunt for him!"
***
With Kael Miles personally presiding over the International Martial Alliance, Aurora Sinclair and Alvin Morgan’s fifth stage of the assessment was remarkably simple. They only needed to duel three Level Three members of the Alliance and win each match to pass.
The two had already built a good rapport with the Level Three members, so they passed this stage with ease.
Vincent Lawson personally presented them with their Level Three member ID cards.
Based on Aurora Sinclair’s strength, she was fully qualified to directly replace Hector Lennox as a Special Level Member. However, Caleb Winslow vehemently objected. In the end, she could only become a Level Three member for the time being, with the chance to advance during the Alliance’s strength assessment tests the following spring.
