Chapter 484: A Mortal’s Pain
Chapter 484: A Mortal’s Pain
"A franchise is a business where someone lets the others, who are called the franchisees, use their brand, business, and operations standards in exchange for a fee and a share of the revenue."
Lin Xuan Qi briefly explained how the franchise business worked to Yue Jie.
That got her perturbed.
"Who would want to do that?" Yue Jie asked with a frown as it sounded absurd to her.
Anyone starting a business would just figure it out on their own in the Da Qian Dynasty.
Lin Xuan Qi shrugged and said, "It’s for those who wouldn’t want to waste their money for the business to fail.
"Joining a franchise guarantees that they would be getting all that they need for the business to be successful.
"It allows for those without the necessary knowledge and experience to have a chance."
"Really?" Yue Jie wasn’t so convinced and she pulled her eyebrows closer together.
"Of course it’s true.
"Think about those without any culinary skills having access to Auntie Sue’s level of expertise.
"I would have everything ready for them.
"All the ingredients for the soup, noodles and training on how to cook will be provided to the franchisees.
"And besides that, when was I ever wrong about things?" Lin Xuan Qi said and pulled her into his embrace.
Yue Jie struggled for a moment before she gave up.
He was most probably right. She thought.
Even if he always liked to boast to her and the others, he hadn’t been wrong on much of the things he had done so far.
She lifted her head and glanced at him with her sparkling almond-shaped eyes.
"So, what do you want from me?" Yue Jie knew that he was here for a purpose.
And most likely it was about getting more funds for his franchise idea.
Lin Xuan Qi gave her a smile and said, "Well, as I’ve said, to attract the franchisees, we need to have a successful business ourselves first to convince them to join."
She nodded her head and waited for him to go on.
When he saw her keeping mum, he knew that he was halfway to success, so he continued and said, "The food cart had done well for today, selling out very fast.
"But it might not be enough to be able to convince others to join with just a food cart.
"We need to have a shop to make it convincing enough."
"A shop?"
"Yeah. A shop so that they wouldn’t think that we would run away with the food cart one of these days." Lin Xuan Qi said and explained with a nod.
"But we only have a hundred taels of gold left to work with for the factories and the mansion.
"The spring festival is also coming up soon and it would cost a bit for the celebrations." Yue Jie sighed and reminded him of the current status.
She knew what it meant for him to open up a new shop.
The money would be used to buy the property, workers and other essentials.
And from what she had heard from him about the franchise business, the returns might not be as immediate as the other businesses.
Thankfully for her, what she said worked.
That got Lin Xuan Qi thinking and he pondered on it a little.
Yue Jie might be right and he might have been too eager to start the new business.
On top of wanting to buy more Spirit Herbs and Artifacts, he still had to reserve some of the money for the daily operations of the factories and the mansion.
It might indeed be best for him to wait for the payment of the rice and soap business to roll in first.
There were only two weeks more before these payments came.
He could afford the wait.
And in the meantime, he could see how the food cart would perform.
Gathering more data was necessary for him to perfect the franchising operations.
"I guess I’ll be patient for now." Lin Xuan Qi shrugged and said.
It was times like this that he was glad to have someone like Yue Jie with him.
He embraced her more tightly and said, "I think I’ll have to give you a reward for that."
Yue Jie shook her head and said, "Wait... Not now. There are others around here."
He smirked at her and said, "Then, I’ll just leave a consolation prize for you."
Lin Xuan Qi lifted her chin and gave her a kiss on her lips before he stood up.
Yue Jie shook her head at him while she touched her lips with his lingering warmth.
"Now, where was I..." She turned her focus back to the accounts book and tried to get back to what she was doing earlier.
...
For the next few days, Lin Xuan Qi went out into the city with the food cart to sell the rice noodles and the other two items.
And he had added a branding for the food cart, Old Lin’s Rice Noodles.
He named it Old Lin to make it sound as if the business had a long tradition and get more trust as those in the Da Qian Dynasty believed in the old masters having better skills.
It was a success with the customers coming back for more.
The customers were happy with what they got and Lin Xuan Qi asked some of them for their feedback.
"For the price, it’s better than what I get from the inn." One of the customers said with a spring roll in his hand.
Another chimed in after he slurped a mouthful of noodles from his bowl and said, "Best thing about this is that the taste is the same every day."
Other customers who were standing around nodded in agreement.
For other food stalls, the taste might not be the same from one day to the other.
It was a stroke of luck for them when they bought from the other food vendors.
Coming back to Lin Xuan Qi’s food cart guaranteed them a consistent experience and they liked it very much.
And with their response, Lin Xuan Qi was much more confident in the franchise business now.
