Chapter 4 Haircut
Chapter 4 Haircut
Zhang Jie frowned:
"No, Jiang Zi, didn't I already say I'm not in a hurry?"
"Besides, you've already lost your job, where are you going to get the money to pay me back?"
"What was the divorce settlement your spouse gave you?"
Chen Jiang shook his head, not wanting to talk about these things, so he simply said it:
"Well... it's okay to tell you, Brother Jie. I won a small lottery prize, five million."
Zhang Jie's eyes widened immediately:
"What??"
Chen Jiang couldn't help but laugh when he saw his expression: "Really, I'm not lying to you, I just went to redeem my prize."
"Holy crap!!"
Zhang Jie immediately jumped up, took out his phone, and opened the transfer window:
"Then stop talking nonsense and pay me back!"
"Damn it, I haven't had a foot massage in ages!"
Chen Jiang waved his hand dismissively:
"That's nothing! We'll go in a bit, dinner, foot massage, karaoke—your little brother's got it all covered!"
Zhang Jiele grinned and bowed in thanks.
"Alright, Jiang Zi, based on what you just said, from now on we'll each stick to our own opinions!"
"You call me brother, I'll call you godfather!"
"Go to hell."
Chen Jiang chuckled and cursed, and after arguing with Zhang Jie for a while, they finally quieted down.
The two lit cigarettes, and after a moment of silence, Zhang Jie became serious and asked:
"Although you've won the lottery and don't have to worry about money for now, you still need to think about what's to come. Let me find you a job, a suitable one."
"Then I'll ask my sister-in-law to introduce me to some girls at her modeling studio. They're all top-notch; I don't even dare to look at them."
"Well... let's not do it." Chen Jiang gave a wry smile. "I haven't recovered yet..."
Zhang Jie didn't care at all. According to him, he didn't really like Chen Jiang's marriage partner, but since it was his mother's choice, there was nothing anyone could do about it.
"It's okay, let's get to know each other first... Anyway, those girls aren't exactly innocent either, if you take it too seriously you'll just make them easier to manipulate."
"Let's talk about it another time."
Chen Jiang remained noncommittal, got up from the sofa, picked up his coat, and said, "Let's go, Brother Jie, how about we grab a bite to eat and soak our feet?"
Zhang Jie stood up, but showed no intention of joining him: "Never mind, I was just joking with you... It was fine to go for a foot massage before, but your sister-in-law and I are trying to conceive recently. If she finds out, I'm probably doomed."
"Besides, I already told you I took leave to come here, and I still have to go back to work."
"No, please let me treat you to a meal before you leave." Chen Jiang tried to persuade him to stay.
"Get lost, I've had enough already, what's so good about it?"
Zhang Jie pushed Chen Jiang aside and, without saying a word, pushed open the door to leave.
Helpless, Chen Jiang saw him to the door: "Alright then, I'll come to your house to find you another day, please come with your sister-in-law."
"That works, but don't suggest another day. Come see me tomorrow morning."
"When the time comes, you'll see how the job I told you about is. I might also introduce you to some girls and see if you find one you like."
Zhang Jie didn't turn around, waved his hand, left a sentence, and entered the elevator.
"This kid..."
Chen Jiang shook his head helplessly.
He met Zhang Jie in college, not as roommates. Zhang Jie was his senior. They became friends by chance and got along quite well. They've known each other for almost ten years now.
We didn't keep in touch much right after he left school, but later, when his family went through some changes, Zhang Jie took the initiative to contact him and offered a lot of help.
Moreover, in this day and age, to be honest, even close brothers are not many people who would lend you 150,000 yuan unconditionally.
So, to him, Zhang Jie is like an older brother; otherwise, he wouldn't have revealed that he won the lottery, although he did try to hide it to some extent.
But there's a huge difference between one million and ten million. He doesn't have much love or family left, but he still cherishes this kind of friendship.
......
Chen Jiang did not have an easy night.
What happened today was so surreal that he, who had been unlucky for several years, could hardly believe it.
I was in a daze all night, waking up three or four times to check my phone, afraid that it was all just a dream.
Finally, he probably got really tired and fell asleep. When he picked up his phone again, it was exactly 7:50. Chen Jiang sighed helplessly.
"Alright, the biological clock of a working-class person is completely set. Even if I don't go to work anymore, I still wake up on time."
There was nothing he could do; he couldn't sleep anyway, so Chen Jiang got up and washed up.
After brushing his teeth, washing his face, and shaving, Chen Jiang looked at his reflection in the mirror, touched his slightly chubby face and messy hair, and sighed, "These past few years have really taken a toll on me. My hair is thinning, my chin is widening, and I have a little belly... Now that I finally have money and free time, it's time to start thinking about my health."
"It would be a real tragedy if the person died before the money was spent."
"Yeah, you could set up a fitness plan or something, and it would be best if you quit smoking too."
Thinking of this, Chen Jiang picked up his phone and glanced at the time.
Yesterday, Zhang Jie told him to come see him, but he didn't specify a time, just that he should go in the morning.
It's not really the right time to work out, but I should still have time to get a haircut or something.
"Let's get a haircut first."
Without hesitation, Chen Jiang put on his clothes, went downstairs, did a quick online search, and then drove off.
The barbershop he was going to was located in a large commercial plaza. It had good reviews online, but the prices were a bit high, with a simple haircut starting at several hundred yuan.
For Chen Jiang in the past, this was naturally an unnecessary expense, but now that his mindset has changed, he is mentally prepared.
The storefront is quite large, which is in line with the price range, but perhaps because it was a weekday, there weren't many customers.
As soon as Chen Jiang entered, he was greeted by two pretty young ladies waiting on either side, who flashed him happy smiles:
"Welcome, lucky sir."
"Today is our store's first anniversary celebration. You are the first customer to enter the store. Not only will you receive a skincare set worth 2999 yuan as a gift from our store, but our store manager will also personally provide you with a free service."
"Are you looking for a haircut, a facial, or something else?"
"Huh?" Chen Jiang was taken aback and subconsciously stopped in his tracks, even wanting to turn around and leave.
The main reason is that, as someone who is used to bad luck, he is usually completely immune to this kind of thing. Even if he does encounter it, there is only one possibility—he has met a scammer.
But before he could make a move, a figure walking out of the barbershop made him stop again.
Wearing a pale yellow suit and high heels, her meticulously styled hair was pinned back. A bright, spring-like smile graced her face as she gracefully approached Chen Jiang and softly said, "Hello sir, I am Chen Siya, the manager of this store."
"You're our first customer at this celebration. How about I serve you?"
"May I ask your surname, sir? And are you a member?"
