Chapter 30 A New Beginning
Chapter 30 A New Beginning
Edmund in the past didn't want to gamble with his own life, nor with the lives of others.
He was unwilling to entrust his life and death to the so-called "favor" of the goddess of fate or the "good fortune" of transmigrators from another world.
Therefore, he chose to embark on the path of becoming an adventurer and 'training' adventurers.
Just like the golden age of Earth, compared to the slim hope of personally venturing into the deep mountains and forests to fight for survival, it was a far cry from the glimmer of hope.
He would much rather be the ordinary merchant selling gold mining tools, maps, and water supplies in markets and towns.
However, the system's incomplete functionality was like a thorn stuck in his foot, making every step he took forward painful and slow.
Perhaps clues about the other missing functions of the [Education and Training System] can be found in the dungeon?
He recalled the words the Duke of Enfield had spoken to him.
Perhaps this is an opportunity.
Using Edith's name to form an adventure party, and leveraging the pretext of working for her and the background of the Enfield family, they search for clues about the incomplete functions of the [Training System] in the dungeons and the wider Holy Kingdom.
Edmund thought for a moment.
He planned to first pour cold water on Edith.
"Miss Edith, based on my past experience, your decision to create an adventure team seems to me to be a very bold idea."
He shrugged and spread his hands.
"Creating an adventurer's group is not as simple as paying a registration fee to the Adventurers' Guild, getting a plaque to hang on the door, and writing a few names on the roster."
Edith blinked.
She looked at Edmund.
Edith has gained considerable experience in adventures through numerous simulations of the system.
But then she recalled how the young man had previously protected Esther and patiently taught her.
As long as it makes Edmund happy.
Anything Edmund likes.
Anything that can make Edmund care about me.
As long as everything we do contributes to the destiny that leads to the true ending that belongs only to the two of us.
I'm willing to do anything.
Edith mimicked Esther's timid demeanor from her memories, combined with a touch of girlish naiveté, innocence, and her own initiative.
"Oh, so that's not how it is?"
Edith rubbed her cheek thoughtfully.
"I thought forming an adventure party was such a simple thing..."
The girl bit her lip, looked at Edmund, and swallowed, as if she wanted to say something but hesitated.
Edmund.
Edith leaned closer to Edmund.
"Could you teach me how to create an adventure party?"
Edmund paused slightly when he heard the word "teach".
He pondered briefly and began to describe his initial ideas according to his own thoughts.
"If it's just about putting together an adventure team, it's indeed a simple matter. As long as there are enough rewards, you can attract enough adventurers."
"But expecting their team to unite when facing risks is as ridiculous as hoping that mosquitoes will disappear from the world in the summer."
"The power of an individual can indeed make up for the weakness of a team to some extent—there are indeed many adventure groups in the Adventurers' Guild that can achieve consecutive victories in dungeons by relying on one or three to five strong members."
"But if you want to explore deeper, adventure groups that rely on individual strength will start to feel inadequate, not to mention the high mortality rate in such groups."
"An adventure group like this is definitely not what Miss Edith wants," Edmund said, offering a fitting compliment before shifting his tone. "If you want to explore dungeons more deeply, you need adventure group members who are united, well-trained, and have a sound organizational structure so they don't fall into chaos when they encounter a crisis and lose command."
"For an adventure team like this, its members need to be selected by knowledgeable experts so that we don't spend a lot of money only to attract empty-headed, good-for-nothings."
"The equipment for adventures needs to be crafted by specialized craftsmen and also needs to be tailored to the strengths of different members."
"Not to mention the most inconspicuous yet most important supplies and logistics. How many adventure groups have mutinied in the dungeon because their leaders were unwilling to distribute enough rations and water to the 'cannon fodder' who were scouting ahead? And how many adventure groups have run out of supplies because their procurement funds were embezzled?"
Edmund paused for a moment.
Edith was staring intently at him.
The teaching rebate system works the same way, since teaching just one person is the same as teaching someone else.
Teaching a hundred people is still teaching.
Why not take this opportunity to openly and legitimately expand the system's "cashback customer base"?
Edmund then made the suggestion.
"Therefore, all members of the adventure team need to undergo my rigorous training."
"It would require an immense amount of effort to create such a powerful, unique, and loyal adventure team according to my vision."
"You previously said that I am both your mentor and your steward, so I hope that you can fully empower me as the 'steward' in this matter and entrust me with the entire responsibility of building the adventure team."
"Whether it's personnel selection and training, or the arrangement of battle formations and the design of tactics, I'm in charge of everything."
"And what about me? Don't I need to do anything? Like, go to the dungeon with them or something?"
Edith looked at Edmund.
But I want to stand by your side more, Edmund.
I also want to share some of the burden with you.
I want to keep watching you, watching every drop of sweat you shed as you work towards our shared bright future.
"You don't need to go into the dungeon yourself; it's far too dangerous."
"You are the future leader of the adventure team, the backbone of everyone, so what you need to do is stay safely in the rear and take control of everything in the adventure team."
"And I will teach you step by step until you can independently take over the work of the entire adventure team."
Edmund paused for a moment.
"I will teach you to start from the very basics, breaking down a grand goal into smaller, manageable parts, just like learning to read."
From a single character to a word, then to a sentence, and finally to an article.
"From a fledgling nobleman to an ordinary adventurer, and then to a true adventurer?" Edith fidgeted with her fingers.
"That's right."
"Then it's a deal!" The girl's voice was full of energy, like a princess in a shonen manga who promised to defeat the demon king with the hero.
"So, for the sake of my grand ambitions, Butler Edmund, what are our plans for today?"
"What are our plans for today? Let's go to the nearby market."
"Why"
"Logistics and procurement are also a very important part. You've never really explored the area around Green Oak Street before, have you?"
"How about we treat this as market research before the team is officially formed?"
