Chapter 38 Feeding
Chapter 38 Feeding
Bat wings are probably the most intricately constructed of all flying creatures in the world.
It has 25 actively controllable joints and 34 degrees of freedom of movement. Between the two layers of membrane covered with blood vessels, there are unique elastic protein fibers and skeletal muscle fibers, which can independently control the tension and shape of every inch of the membrane, thereby achieving precise turning in the air.
A scorching warm current swirled between his wings, making Thor feel that his wings, which were already larger than those of an ordinary red dragon, were now growing at an exaggerated rate.
The dragon crystals that had just been swallowed were being digested rapidly, turning into abundant energy to power the blood vessels in the wing membranes to spread and the muscle fibers to grow.
The excavated cave was so small that even Thor couldn't spread his wings. He leaped out of the cave and ran along the steep slope all the way to the flat top of the Gobi Desert.
Facing the rising sun, he spread his wings wide, and then discovered that the wing membranes had become thicker, and the part connected to his body had extended to his tail like a blue dragon.
"My wingspan is now probably more than twice my body length, and the base of my wings is even thicker than my thigh. Even without relying on dragon-like magical abilities, I can easily soar through the skies."
Thor tried flapping his wings, and a howling gale was instantly generated. The powerful recoil propelled his body, and in a flash, he soared into the sky.
The growth of his wings made him feel intensely hungry. Although dragon crystals could provide ample energy, they lacked the necessary substances to build his body.
This hunting trip will be a good opportunity to get to know this oasis better.
He traveled downstream along the river, his sharp eyes quickly catching sight of the other young dragons.
Most of the green dragons coiled on large trees or stayed in shallow water; the black dragons hid in the mud in the shadowy corners; and the most numerous blue dragons preferred the deserts on the edge of the oasis.
As for the white dragons? As the second most numerous species, they have no fixed habitat and roam the entire oasis like wild beasts.
Thor sometimes couldn't understand how this guy, whose intelligence level didn't even reach 9 points after adulthood, could be called one of the five dragons alongside the great red dragon.
With such low intelligence, sometimes they are even inferior to some lowly dragons. It would be better to just kick them out and rename them Four-Colored Dragons.
A notification that a fragment of spiritual energy had increased caught Thor's attention. He glanced at it out of the corner of his eye and immediately realized that some of the young dragons had noticed him soaring in the air.
These guys were all insidious, cunning, and violent, and they were filled with malice towards almost all life, but Saul thought it was absolutely fantastic.
Just by flying around in the sky, he could gain spiritual essence, which made him want to laugh.
In order to maximize his profits, he not only did not restrain himself, but also roared loudly. The violent sound waves spread far and wide, startling a large number of birds and attracting the attention of almost all the young dragons.
"That brainless brute!"
"Arrogant fool!"
"That's incredibly arrogant!"
……
Thor, of course, couldn't hear the whispers hidden beneath the dunes, forests, and ravines. For the next few days, whenever he had a spare moment, he would fly high into the sky and circle around, partly to adapt to his evolved wings as quickly as possible, and partly to hunt.
The number of baby dragons in this godforsaken place is so dense that ordinary animals have either been eaten to extinction or fled in fear, making their numbers extremely scarce.
This meant he had to fly long distances every day to catch enough prey to satisfy his ever-growing appetite.
I really don't know what those small, low-IQ white dragons eat to survive.
On the morning of the fourth day after arriving at this oasis, Thor's doubts were answered.
A group of orcs and kobolds appeared in the distant wilderness, walking on the only main road leading to the oasis.
Behind them was a line of huge carts made of simple wooden planks, piled high with live giant horned cattle, whole fish, charred camels, various fruits, and some fermenting and rotting meat.
The melodious sound of bull horns echoed across the wilderness. Hearing the sound, the young dragons emerged from all over the oasis, flapping their wings and rushing straight towards the caravan loaded with food.
Clearly, these are all foods used to feed the baby dragons.
Thor could hardly believe his eyes when he saw this.
This is the first time he has ever seen a dragon provide food for its young since hatching.
But this did not hinder his movements at all. With a sudden flap of his unusually wide wings, the powerful wind pressure propelled his 16-foot-long body forward, charging towards the convoy piled with food.
The orcs and kobolds responsible for transporting food, upon seeing the various black dots rising in the distance, immediately abandoned the caravan behind them and ran away without looking back.
After fusing the pterosaur and scaled bat bio-templates, Thor's wings underwent two evolutions, making his flight speed comparable to that of a blue dragon and his skills superior to those of a black dragon. He was almost the first to rush to the front of the convoy.
He immediately spotted the Bystin Giant Horned Bull, which was tied to a flatbed cart. It was an old bull, as big as a small elephant, and weighed at least a ton.
Before the other young dragons could reach him, he landed on the giant bull, his red-scaled forepaws stepping on its head, his massive wings casting a large shadow that enveloped the entire cart, thus asserting his dominance.
The blue dragons that arrived later pounced on the two charred camels—their favorite food.
However, there were too many of them, and the amount of meat was clearly not enough to go around. Some of them turned their heads and set their sights on Thor.
"Damn red dragon, hand over the bull beneath your feet!"
"You're just one kitten, you don't deserve so much food!"
Thor looked down at the surrounding blue dragons, flames flickering in his slightly parted mouth.
Thanks to the "contributions" of the surrounding young dragons, he can now collect an average of three points of spiritual essence every day, which he can exchange for a piece of charcoal and a dragon crystal every now and then to promote his physical growth and development.
He had just eaten a piece of burning coal this morning, and the fine powder had not yet been fully digested in his stomach, so he was in the best condition at that moment.
"What I set my sights on is mine! Whether it's worthy or not is not for you to decide."
"If you don't like me, then come at me! Let me see what you've got that makes you think you can boss me around!"
Sistana and Calp, who arrived late, lagged behind Thor and couldn't help but feel tense as they looked at the tense situation.
The other baby dragons paid no attention to any of this, as they were all choosing their own food and feasting.
A significant number of the early-arriving blue dragons had already buried their heads in the camels scorched by lightning, tearing at the delicious flesh.
The blue dragons surrounding Thor looked warily at the raging flames in his throat, realizing that even with their numbers, they would likely be injured, and ultimately could only silently choose to give up.
"I'll let you be arrogant for a few days."
"Just you wait, you'll get your comeuppance eventually."
